vote swap no cure for electoral system sickness

Just got a final report from Pair Vote, the folks that organised 8000 vote swaps back in June. Read it here.

“Governments will then be faced with a choice: yield to vote swapping and its effect on results, or give in and deliver real voting reform. Until we have reform, Pair Vote is here to stay.

Why not gather all our energies from promoting vote swapping and channel it into campaigning for real electoral reform instead? What must we, the 60% of Canadians who voted for a party other than the Conservatives, do to bring about this change?

I realise time is of the essence. Ontario provincial elections are coming up in 2012 and god forbid a Conservative government in our most populous province. But it feels like a waste to be spending so many resources on a temporary fix-it rather than a genuine, lasting cure.
